STANDARD ASSEMBLIES

Standard assemblies consist of a cross-arm with clamps, 2-uprights, 2-bottom plates or augers, 2- stringer brackets, and two vinyl caps; in other words, everything you normally need to hold up a dock section.  You cannot just order a standard assembly as there are many size and casting combinations. Rather, you should order all parts separately.

2” DIAMETER UPRIGHTS

Uprights are available in both Aluminum and Galvanized Steel.  We stock 3’, 4’, 5’, 6’, 7’, 8’, 10’, and 12’ lengths.  Stock up to 20’ is available.

Most customers prefer Aluminum for both esthetics and light weight, but for longer uprights and special heavy duty applications, Galv. Steel can be a good option

Uprights include a 17/32” turn rod hole at the top (10’ &12’ have multiple holes), and a 13/32” hole at the bottom to accommodate a #200 auger.

ASSEMBLED CROSS-ARMS

Assembled cross-arms include 2-300C Superclamps and come in a variety of lengths.  3’ & 4’ lengths are all aluminum; longer cross-arms have a galv. steel tube for more support. You should consider a truss on anything longer than 6’.

90 DEGREE CROSS-ARMS

90 Deg. cross-arms are 3” longer than standard cross-arms and one 300C Superclamp is turned 90 deg. from the other allowing one end to be attached to an upright and the other end to be attached to a separate regular cross-arm.  This allows you to make a corner with the dock without having a blind upright.   They also allow you to go construct a finger dock perpendicular to the main dock right where an upright would normally set between sections.

PARTY PLATFORM TRUSSES

Adding a party platform to your dock gives you in effect, valuable lake frontage.  These platforms are also a great place for adding chairs, ladders & accessories, but installation can be difficult without a good truss system.  Alumi-Span Trusses are lightweight, strong, and especially designed for easy installation.  They also come in a variety of standard widths including   6’, 8’, 9’, & 12’.  90 deg. versions of the 6’, 8’, & 9’ truss are also available (see 90 deg. cross-arm description above).  For larger platforms, we stock 16’ and 20’ trusses that use an extra telescoping leg assembly in the center for added support and easy adjustment.  A large 24’ X 12’ platform can be assembled with two people in about 35 minutes.

“T” CONNECTOR

This product works like a vise to hold any two independent sections securely together.   This eliminates pinch points and allows configurations such as a T shaped dock.  This product is also useful for connecting “finger” docks anywhere along the main deck as long as it's between the uprights (if the uprights are in the way, use a 90 deg. cross-arm).

IN LINE CONNECTOR

This device is really a small cross-arm and is used to fasten platforms to the main dock when all sections are running parallel with each other (platform sections can also run perpendicular using 90 deg. cross-arms.

STRINGERS (OR SIDE STRINGER)

Alumi-Span dock sections are constructed by bolting various deck materials like vinyl or anodized aluminum into aluminum structural beams that actually carry the load (one beam on each deck side).  These beams are called stringers.  While there are other copies of Alumi-Span’s pioneering stringer design (1955), they are not the same.  Alumi-Span stringers are 100% acid etch anodized and made of a special alloy that reduces flex.   Stringers can be purchased separately from the assembled deck sections.  There are several lengths including 5’, 8’ 10’ and 12’.  Note that stringers used for vinyl are not interchangeable with those used for our other deck materials since some dimensions are different.

“T” STRINGERS AND “U” STRINGERS

T’s and U’s are used as supports under the deck located usually in the longitudinal middle.  This keeps wood and vinyl decking from sagging over time and gives the deck a more solid feel.  The interlocking all aluminum decking does not require them.  For heavy duty applications one or two of these stringers can be fastened to the bottom of any deck.   They are connected to the cross-arm via our #205 Stringer Rests.  “T” stringers and side stringers can also be used free standing by bolting them to the cross-arms using #100B Stringer Brackets.  The wood panels can then simply slip into the end of set of stringers.  While more time consuming it does allow one man installation without any heavy lifting.

SERIES “B” 90 DEG. BRACKET

Series “B” docks are designed for superfast installations and require no bolting and unbolting.  Conventional docks use special cross-arms (90 deg.) For turning corners but on Series “B”, we turn corners by fastening a 90 deg bracket (3’ or 4’) anywhere along the side of another section.  The next section simply slips into the 90 deg. bracket in seconds.  They also make a great way to start the first section flush from the top of a seawall.   These brackets also allow a section to ramp up or down up to a 4/1 pitch.

SNAP ON DIAGONAL BRACES

Only from Alumi-Span, this brace helps eliminate the pendulum effect when using longer uprights.  They come in 4’, 5’, 6’, & 8’, standard lengths.  The longitudinal version can run parallel to a dock section and be pushed onto the bottom of an upright on one end and the top of the upright on the other.  Best of all, unlike competitive brands, ours simply snap on in seconds – No more reaching into cold water to fasten bolts.
